Anne of Green Gables

We had so much fun at the play yesterday. Had lunch then the play. The Elden Street Players Children's Troupe is an exceptional treasure for the community. This was a 2 hour play - longer than the usual ones. The actors were very talented and the story clipped along and kept SRO crowd - mostly children engaged the whole time.

It takes me back to a time long ago when I would act. The thrill of the stage -- the rush of adrenalin right before you walk out onto the stage to face your audience. It is so awesome! I haven't acted since the early 90s for various reasons. The number one reason being that my mother had a stroke and I was always traveling back to Oklahoma several times a year (as many times as I could) and this would not lend itself to rehearsals or performances. I don't know if I could memorize lines today. I really don't and would probably be petrified -- well not necessarily, I would go out on stage and the audience would not realize anything was wrong until they looked at the other actors who would probably not have the faintest clue where I was in the script. Oh well, the audience experience is thrilling.

I enjoy going to the theatre with Loren. She is one special young lady! After the play is over, she goes one-by-one and gets all of the actors autographs. This is an amazing sight to see -- all the children crowding around their favorite characters standing in awe with their programs clutched in their little hands waiting for the chance. Yes, these are future stage door groupies. Look out Broadway, they will descend on you with programs and pens in hand. Autographs are so fun to collect. I told Loren today that I was going to make her a "stage door" album so she can keep her autographs and photos all together. Right now, her mother told me, they are on the refrigerator. So you will be seeing the creation soon.

Just have to get a few more things done for Christmas. The cards are ready to be MAILED! Thank you Jesus. Don't know why they have been a little bit of an ordeal this year - they probably always are and I just don't remember. They did not come out like I thought they would but that is the creative process. The encaustic wax piece went on the inside.

The outside ended up with me using one of my favorite and overused clips -- my angel child. I use her a lot and she is so worth it. It looks like a busy week. Take care. Don't stress too much. Have fun. Eat chocolate!

Meeting the kids after the show and signing autographs is definitely one of the fun parts of doing children's theater.

I remember meeting Loren and I'm glad you both came to see the show.

Happy Holidays to you both!

My favorite part of directing theater for young audiences has always been watching the kids interact with the actors when the show is over. Nothing says "success" to me like seeing their enthusiastic little faces waiting in line to meet their new favorite characters. I am so glad you were able to be a part of our special project and I happy we were able to borrow your attention for a brief period in time.

Thank you, Leta and Kat, for your comments. Anyone reading this blog right now in the Herndon, VA, area - get your tickets now for Anne. It is still running this coming weekend. It may be sold out. Don't miss out on an incredible holiday experience. All of the actors are fantastic (and I don't just say that - I watch a show closely and I nitpik) - the director (Kat) was right on the mark. The young actress playing Anne was so convincing that by the end of the show I forgot she wasn't really Anne. I know, I'm gushing. . . get your tickets NOW.
